The age of this unit is estimated to range from Late Triassic to Jurassic.La nueva unidad de lavas almohadillados que afloran en la vereda Nogontova (Boyacá) y San José de Miranda (Santander), flanco occidental de la Cordillera Oriental, está constituida por basaltos con texturas porfiríticas y amigdalares, con microfenocristales de plagioclasa y clinopiroxeno embebidos en una masa fundamental vitrofídica, microlítica e intergranular.
