In second instance, examines the prevalence, population at risk, affected regions and the associated mortality to these diseases. Finally, a critical analysis of the current state of the knowledge in issue of research for the development of medicines for the eradication and control of these diseases is presented. Poverty Areas.  El artículo inicialmente plantea las discusiones que se han dado en torno a las enfermedades tropicales olvidadas, sus características y clasificación. En segunda instancia, examina la prevalencia, población a riesgo, regiones afectadas y la mortalidad asociada a estas enfermedades. Por último, se presenta un análisis crítico del estado actual del conocimiento en materia de investigación para el desarrollo de fármacos para el control y erradicación de estas enfermedades.
