| dc.description | ABSTRACT Saints and the idea of holiness are a historical construction. As idealized subjects, each epoch and culture determine what are the values and virtues that these must contain so they will be erected as behavioral role models, and in this process the sacred becomes a subject creator. This article explores the ideal of holiness that was developed in the New Kingdom of Nueva Granada from the colonial painting and its relationship with the literary narratives of exemplary subjects, to observe how a speech was generated that it would contribute to the formation of the colonial subject. Como sujetos idealizados, cada época y cultura determinan cuáles son los valores y virtudes que estos deben contener para que sean erigidos como modelos de comportamiento, y en este proceso lo santo se constituye en forjador de sujetos. Este artículo explora el ideal de santidad que se desarrolló en el Nuevo Reino de Granada a partir de la pintura colonial y su relación con las narraciones literarias de sujetos ejemplares, para observar cómo se generó un discurso que contribuiría a la formación del sujeto colonial.
