| dc.description.abstractenglish | The transport of mixtures of hydrogen (H₂) and natural gas (NG) in existing pipelines has become a strategic alternative within the energy sector's decarbonization plans. This option is attractive because it allows existing infrastructure to be used, reducing investment costs and accelerating the transition to cleaner energy sources. However, the marked differences in the physicochemical properties of hydrogen compared to natural gas pose technical, operational, and safety challenges that must be carefully analyzed before large-scale implementation. In this study, the thermohydraulic behavior of different mixtures was evaluated using numerical simulations with Aspen HYSYS® software. To adequately represent the system, the Peng-Robinson equation of state was selected and a realistic topographic profile was considered along with an average natural gas composition typical of Colombia. The simulations considered hydrogen injection in a range between 0% and 30% by volume. The results obtained show that the increase in the hydrogen fraction modifies critical parameters such as pressure, density, temperature, and Wobbe Index (WI). In particular, a progressive increase in pressure and a slight rise in temperature were observed. These findings provide essential information to ensure operational safety and energy efficiency in the context of the transition to a more sustainable energy system. | |
