Traditional Cuban historiography privileges the analysis of the economical and/or political processes that have marked its future, even before the emergence of the nation, leaving the various cultural springs that are an inseparable part of the problem on a relegated plane. This article focuses on analyzing the social chronicle, especially the one expressed in the pages of the Diario de la Marina, as a space with the ability to generate meanings that transcend journalism and the social group that serves as a reference. Specifically, we address how the construction exercise is produced from de discursive analysis of the activities that characterized the elite of the domestic bourgeoisie. We focus on the forms of representation of the ways, attitudes and aptitudes of these subjects, as social actors belonging to a hegemonic group within culture, economy and national politics, but with strong and clear links of interdependence with the United States. Within this process, the discursive structures used are fundamental due to their ductility and possibilities of construction of the accepted and acceptable conceptions of the world. This work allows verifying the discursive authority that this space had within the Republican life, which made it possible for it to enjoy the monopoly of the word.
