dc.description.abstract	En el presente trabajo se muestran los resultados de un estudio de prefactibilidad técnico-económico de tres alternativas propuestas para darle solución a la situación que se presenta en la Universidad Industrial de Santander con los residuos sólidos de papel y cartón que se generan dentro del campus. Se realizó un inventario de dichos residuos del cual se pudo seleccionar los cuatro tipos de papel más producidos: papel archivo, papel periódico, papel plegadizo o barnizado y papel cartón. A los cuatro tipos de papel se les realizaron pruebas de caracterización, dichas pruebas mostraron que el tipo de papel con mayor gramaje y espesor es el cartón con 616 g/m2 y 3,39 cm respectivamente. Además se estableció que los cuatro tipos de papel evaluados poseen poderes caloríficos superiores similares a los de las biomasas más utilizadas, el papel de mayor poder calorífico es el periódico con 18,49 MJ/Kg. Por medio de la interpretación de los resultados obtenidos, fue posible postular tres alternativas, estas fueron: producción de lápices de papel, pr A partir de estas alternativas, se realizó un estudio de prefactibilidad que permitió establecer la más adecuada para el aprovechamiento del residuo. Se pudo concluir que la más adecuada para la implementación en la Universidad Industrial de Santander es la alternativa uno, debido a que su alta viabilidad y rentabilidad económica de acuerdo a las características de la generación de residuos al interior de la universidad.
dc.description.abstractenglish	This paper presents the results of a technical-economic feasibility study of three proposed alternatives, to provide a solution for the current situation at Universidad industrial de Santander (UIS) about the management of solid waste of paper and cardboard, generated inside the campus. An inventory of such waste was performed, where it was possible to identify the four (4) most types used. They are: file paper, cardboard, newspaper, and folding or varnished. Characterization tests were performed to these four paper types. These tests showed that the type of paper with heavier weight and thickness is the cardboard with 616 g/m2 and 3.39 cm respectively. Furthermore it was established that the four types of evaluated paper, have similar upper heating values, near to the most used biomasses. The one with the higher heating value is the newspaper with 18,49 MJ/Kg. Through the interpretation of the obtained results, it was possible to propose three different alternatives, they were: production of paper pencils, production of paper pellets, and tissue paper elaboration. Through the feasibility study performed, was possible to determine which one was the most suitable for the usage of the waste in the campus. It was concluded that the best choice for Universidad industrial de Santander (UIS) is the alternative number one (1), because its high economic viability and profitability is the most suitable due to the type and amount of paper residues generated at the University.
