dc.descriptionEste artículo estudia los casos de algunos esclavos de Medellín que solicitaron ser declarados libres por vías legales a finales de la Colonia y durante los primeros años republicanos. El objetivo de este estudio fue encontrar en las solicitudes y demandas de libertad presentadas ante el Cabildo y clasificadas como documentación judicial, evidencias del nivel de conocimiento que tenían los demandantes sobre las leyes, así como su manera de aprovechar los espacios, relaciones y saberes que les brindó el ambiente de la villa con el fin de usarlos a su favor a la hora de defenderse ante los tribunales.es-ES
dc.descriptionThis article studies the cases of some slaves of Medellin who applied to be declared free by legal means at the end of the colonial period and during the early Republican. The aim of this study was found in the applications and demands for freedom submitted to the council, classified as court documents, evidence of the level of knowledge of the legal context that had the plaintiffs and their way to benefit the spaces, relationships and knowledge that gave them the atmosphere of the village in order use them to their advantage when defending themselves in court.en-US
