dc.descriptionSe estudia el contrabando y pacificación indígena en la península de la Goajira como expresión de las disputas imperiales entre España y otras potencias coloniales, principalmente Holanda e Inglaterra, en el contexto del Caribe durante los siglos XVII-XVIII. Para su elaboración se empleó el método de la investigación histórica-documental. Se concluye que el contrabando y la pacificación indígena en la península Goajira fueron dos problemas asociados a la nueva situación política y económica del Caribe, el cual, consolidado como mar interior americano, fue escenario de las luchas entre España y otras potencias europeas que fomentaron el contrabando y la animadversión de los indígenas wayúu en contra de las autoridades hispanas en la península de la Goajira. La actitud indomable de los aborígenes facilitó la influencia foránea y afianzamiento de un eje de comercio ilícito conformado por Jamaica-Curazao-Península de la Goajira en detrimento de las políticas mercantilistas del imperio español.es-ES
dc.descriptionThe contraband and indigenous pacification in the Goajira peninsula is studied as an expression of the imperial disputes between Spain and other colonial powers, mainly Holland and England, in the context of the Caribbean during the XVII-XVIII centuries. For its elaboration the method of historical-documentary research was used. It is concluded that smuggling and indigenous pacification in the Goajira peninsula were two problems associated with the new political and economic situation in the Caribbean, which, consolidated as the American interior sea, was the scene of the struggles between Spain and other European powers that promoted the contraband and animosity of the Wayúu indigenous against the Hispanic authorities in the Goajira peninsula. The indomitable attitude of the aborigines facilitated the foreign influence and consolidation of an axis of illicit commerce conformed by Jamaica-Curaçao-Peninsula of the Goajira to the detriment of the mercantilist policies of the Spanish empire.en-US
