dc.description.abstract	Se calcula que en el mundo se generan anualmente alrededor de 350 a 400 millones de ton de residuos peligrosos. Una gran parte de ellos proviene de la industria del Petróleo y la industria química. La peligrosidad de tales residuos depende de su composición, ya que en la mayor parte de los casos se trata de mezclas complejas que contienen diversos tipos de sustancias. Cabe señalar que en el comercio existen más de 100 000 sustancias, y que sólo para un número reducido de ellas se cuenta con información acerca de sus propiedades físico-químicas, su toxicidad y biodegradabilidad, aspectos que definen su peligrosidad para la salud humana y el ambiente. Es en función de esas propiedades y de la forma en que se presentan los residuos, que se puede determinar su peligrosidad. Las implicaciones de la disposición inadecuada de los residuos peligrosos para la salud y el bienestar público, así como para el ambiente, han quedado ampliamente evidenciadas por sucesos que pusieron de relieve que es más costoso remediar que prevenir. Tal es el caso de los episodios de intoxicación por mercurio y cadmio acaecidos en Japón. Debido a todos estos casos que se han presentado ha surgido una gran preocupación ambiental y de salud por los problemas que originan los residuos, principalmente los denominados peligrosos. Los daños que se pueden ocasionar al medio ambiente y a la salud de la humanidad, y por tanto a los trabajadores, por la incorrecta gestión de los residuos peligrosos, son de una enorme importancia. Es responsabilidad de ECOPETROL S.A cumplir con la legislación vigente en materia de residuos, para ello es conveniente elaborar unas normas internas o reglamento interno, que indiquen el protocolo a seguir por todo el personal de los laboratorios de la SOR.
dc.description.abstractenglish	One calculates that in the world they are generated annually around 350 to 400 million ton of dangerous residues. A great part of them comes from the industry of Petroleum and the chemical industry. The danger of such residues depends on its composition, since in most of the cases it is complex mixtures that contain diverse types of substances. It is possible to indicate that in the commerce they exist more than 100 000 substances, and that only stops a reduced number of them counts on information about its properties physical chemistries, its toxicity and biodegradability, aspects that define their danger for the human health and the atmosphere. It is based on those properties and of the form in which the residues appear, that can be determined their danger. The implications of the inadequate disposition of the dangerous residues for the health and the public well-being, as well as for the atmosphere, have been widely demonstrated by events that put of relief that is more expensive to remedy than to come up. So it is the case of the episodes of poisoning by happened mercury and cadmium in Japan. Due to all these cases that have appeared a great environmental preoccupation has arisen and from health by the problems that originate the residues, mainly the dangerous denominated ones. The damages that can be caused to the environment and the health of the humanity, and therefore to the workers, by the incorrect management of the dangerous residues, are of an enormous importance. It is responsibility of ECOPETROL S.A. to fulfill the effective legislation in the matter of residues, for it is advisable to elaborate internal norms or internal procedures, that indicate the protocol to follow by all the personnel of the laboratories of the SOR.
