El romanticismo y el realismo del siglo XIX fueron dos corrientes literarias que se caracterizaron por tener como fuente de inspiración los paisajes y las costumbres que rodearon a los autores de esta centuria. Tomas Carrasquilla fue uno de los exponentes del realismo en Colombia. A través de sus líneas podemos estudiar aspectos sociales, políticos y culturales de la Medellín decimonónica. Esto abre la puerta para que la literatura sea considerada fuente de investigación histórica, pues un escritor parte de su entorno, del contexto en que vivió. Por otro lado, el maridaje entre literatura y cultura alimentaria permiten entender las costumbres y comportamientos alrededor de la mesa, que tiene una sociedad determinada.
Romanticism and realism of the nineteenth century were two literary currents that were characterized by inspiration from the landscapes and customs surrounding the perpetrators of this century. Carrasquilla Tomas was one of the exponents of realism in Colombia. Through their lines we can study the social, political and cultural aspects of nineteenth Medellin. This opens the door to that literature is considered a source of historical research, as a writer of his surroundings, the context in which they lived. On the other hand, the marriage between literature and food culture enable us to understand the habits and behaviors around the table, which has a given society.
