| dc.description | El proceso de extradición del represor argentino Ricardo Miguel Cavallo, comenzó como rememora el fiscal español Carlos Castresana, el 28 de marzo de 1996 (Castresana, 2004). Este artículo tiene como objetivo hacer énfasis en uno de los preceptos que llaman a la “comunidad internacional a evitar la impunidad de ciertos crímenes considerados moralmente repudiables…” (Méndez, 2004, p.521): el Principio de Jurisdicción Universal (PJU). El PJU es un “…convenio internacional… que persigue la tortura… el genocidio… los crímenes contra la humanidad. [Es una máxima que] no reconoce frontera ni reconoce nacionalidad, ni reconoce ningún obstáculo o condición social para ser reconocido [es] universal. [El PJU] es… el instrumento por fin encontrado, para crear un horizonte en donde sea posible juzgar los crímenes… que se cometen contra los seres humanos” (Slepoy, 2005). | dc.description | The extradition process of the Argentinian repressor Ricardo Miguel Cavallo began, as the Spanish prosecutor Carlos Castresana said: "On 28 March 1996 [when] in a meeting of the Progressive Union of Prosecutors I told the comrades: ¿Why don’t we file a complaint against the argentine military junta? The idea was unanimously approved, we presented it that day” (Castresana, 2004). The purpose of this article is to emphasize one of the precepts that call the “international community to avoid impunity for certain crimes considered morally reprehensible…” (Méndez, 2004, p.521): the Principle of Universal Jurisdiction (PJU). The PJU affirms that it is an “… international agreement… that pursues torture… genocide… crimes against humanity. [This is a concept that] does not recognize a border or recognize nationality, nor does it recognize any barrier or social condition to be accepted as [it is] universal. [The PJU] is… the instrument finally found, to create a horizon where it is possible to judge crimes… that are committed against human beings” (Slepoy, 2005).
