| dc.description | ABSTRACTAdvances in medicine over the last two centuries have brought major benefits to the world’s population, but also some difficulties. Family medicine is a response to the dissatisfaction expressed by patients to the fragmentation of the human being, providing a comprehensive and continuous care, focusing on the person and their environment. In Colombia, family physicians are also facing new challenges under the new health legislation, in force since January 2011 and which is expected to bring significant changes to the health situation of the country. | dc.description | Los avances de la medicina en los últimos dos siglos han traído notables beneicios a la población mundial, pero también algunas diicultades. La medicina familiar surge como respuesta a la inconformidad expresada por los pacientes ante la fragmentación del ser humano, brindando una atención integral y continua, enfocada en la persona y su entorno. En Colombia el médico familiar se ve enfrentado además a nuevos retos, en el marco de la nueva legislación en salud vigente desde enero de 2011 y de la cual se espera que traiga consigo modiicaciones importantes a la situación en salud del país.
