| dc.description.abstractenglish | This project aimed to evaluate the preparation of fibers thru electrospinning, incorporating limonene as a bioactive compound, and its controlled release for a possible application in wound healing. The fibers were obtained by electrospinning a solution of xylan, polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), bentonite, sodium alginate, and limonene onto a support of gelatin, elastin, and glycerin. The effect of the distance between electrodes (10 and 16 cm) and the concentration of limonene (2.5%, 5%, and 7.5% v/v) was evaluated. The solutions exhibited pseudoplastic behavior, adequate conductivity for electrospinning, and a pH favorable for wound healing applications. The fibers obtained at 10 cm showed higher yields (56.75–97.49%) than those at 16 cm (32.71–87.69%), in addition to a system stability at 37 °C between 9.03% and 10.95%, a moisture content of 16.10–17.44%, and a water absorption capacity of 449–546%. The highest limonene loading capacity (10.80%) was obtained with 7.5% v/v of limonene and a distance of 16 cm. Finally, the highest percentage of cumulative release was achieved in PBS (98.82%) for this same formulation, followed by the saline solution, which showed a cumulative release of 97.86%. | |
