| dc.description | En el presente artículo expongo los rasgos primordiales de las repúblicas de indios constituidas en los pueblos de misión jesuíticos en el noroeste novohispano, destacando la gran relevancia del factor militar. La inclusión de los cargos militares fue el aporte más significativo que hicieron los indios septentrionales en la constitución de sus cabildos. En esta región fue imposible desarmar a los indígenas pues los conquistadores requerían su apoyo para asegurar el avance de la frontera. De esta manera, los pobladores originarios, al continuar ejerciendo sus habilidades guerreras, dejaron su impronta en la conformación de las estructuras sociales y políticas regionales. | es-ES |
| dc.description | In this paper I expose the essential characteristics of the Indian republics established in Jesuit missions in the colonial northwest of New Spain, remarking the great importance of the military element. The inclusion of military officers was the most significant contribution made by the northern Indians in the constitution of their councils. In this region it was impossible to disarm the Indians, as conquerors required their support to consolidate their advance on the frontier. Thus, the original inhabitants continued practicing their fighting skills and left their mark on the constitution of regional social and political structures. | en-US |
