Publicación: Meaning and reference in contemporary art. The case of electronic and digital arts

| dc.description | With this text I intend to establish a relationship between the semiotic-hermeneutic ways of making art and the experiential happenings that give rise to artistic productions, including the heirs of science and technology: electronic and digital arts. This will make an analysis of the notion of mimesis, I will argue that we are witnessing a supported art semantic dimension in its reference to the everyday world. For this mention some traditional art and, especially, will stop looking at what is considered the first digital artwork Ninety Parallel Sinusoids by Michael Noll, and in more recent ones Esto no es un Magritte by Uruguayan Fabián Barros, and Esto no es América by Chilean Alfredo Jaar. The three works are chosen in order to analyze their benchmarks. So finally I hope to show that the relationship between man and the world still has ways of representation in art, and that despite all the twists and syntactic changes that can occur, the art is still a way of interpreting the world and what it burden of meaning. | en-US |
| dc.description | Con este texto me propongo establecer una relación semiótica-hermenéutica entre las formas de hacer arte y los aconteceres vivenciales que dan origen a las producciones artísticas, incluidas las herederas de la ciencia y la tecnología: las artes electrónicas y digitales. Para ello haré un análisis a la noción de mímesis; defenderé que asistimos a una dimensión semántica del arte apoyada en su referencia al mundo cotidiano. Para esto mencionaré algunas obras de arte tradicionales y, muy especialmente, detendré la mirada en la que se considera la primera obra de arte digital Noventa senoidales paralelas de Michael Noll, y en otras más recientes como Esto no es un Magritte del uruguayo Fabián Barros, y Esto no es América del chileno Alfredo Jaar. Las tres obras son escogidas con el propósito de analizar sus elementos de referencia. Así finalmente espero mostrar que la relación del hombre con el mundo sigue teniendo modos de representación en el arte, y que a pesar de todos los giros y cambios sintácticos que pueden darse, el arte sigue siendo un modo de interpretación del mundo y que este lo carga de significado. | es-ES |
