dc.description.abstractLa variación en la presentación de los casos de SIDA obliga a un mejor conocimiento de sus características clínicas y epidemiológicas para tener una adecuada sospecha y hacer diagnósticos tempranos. Se realizó un estudio descriptivo de corte transversal con los pacientes que asistieron al Hospital Universitario Ramón González Valencia entre los años 1984 y 2003 con diagnóstico de SIDA para determinar sus principales características en el momento de la consulta. Se revisaron un total de 348 historias clínicas a las cuales se les aplicó un formato de recolección de datos teniendo en cuenta los aspectos epidemiológicos, clínicos y de laboratorios básicos. Se observó que las características epidemiológicas conservan un patrón similar a las estadísticas referidas por estudios a nivel nacional e internacional llamando la atención el aumento de la enfermedad en grupos heterosexuales con una relación hombre/mujer que se acerca a la igualdad. La presentación clínica indica patologías especialmente de tipo infeccioso, tanto oportunistas como no oportunistas, siendo los tumores una forma de presentación poco frecuente en nuestro medio. No se encontraron suficientes datos acerca de la carga viral y de los CD4 de los pacientes lo cual no permitió realizar análisis y comparaciones. Las características clínicas, paraclínicas y epidemiológicas de la presentación de los casos de SIDA son similares en el ámbito local, nacional y mundial. La historia clínica es y seguirá siendo el instrumento fundamental para el enfoque diagnóstico y tratamiento de los pacientes.
dc.description.abstractenglishThe variation in the presentation of the cases of AIDS forces to a better knowledge of its clinical and epidemic characteristics to have an appropriate suspicion and to make diagnostic early. It was carried out a descriptive cross-sectional study with the patients that attended the University Hospital Ramón Gonzalez Valencia among the years 1984 and 2003 with diagnostic of AIDS to determine their main ones characteristic in the moment of the consultation. They were revised a total of 348 clinical histories to which were applied a format of gathering of data keeping in mind the epidemic, clinical aspects and of basic laboratories. It was observed that the epidemic characteristics conserve a similar pattern to the statistics referred by studies at national and international level calling the attention the increase of the illness in heterosexual groups with a relationship male/female that comes closer to the equality. The clinical presentation indicates pathologies especially of infectious type, as much opportunists as non opportunists, being the tumors a form of not very frequent presentation in our environment. They were not enough data about the viral load and of the CD4 of the patients that which didn't allow to carry out analysis and comparisons. The clinical, paraclinical and epidemic characteristics of the presentation of the cases of AIDS they are similar in the local, national and world environment. The clinical history is and it will continue being the fundamental instrument for the diagnostic focus and the patients' treatment.
