dc.description    The structural geology studies around the Nevado del Ruiz Volcano (NRV), based on aerial photographs anddigital terrene models interpretation, in conjunction with analysis of morphological, tectonic features, striatedfault planes data and stress field calculation allow to propose a structural scheme that explains the pattern oflocation of hot springs and fluid released in the western part of the NRV. Structures and kinematics in the regionare closely related to the dominant tectonic features of the NVR, nominally longitudinal NE-SW and N-Sfaults (Palestina, Santa Rosa and San Jerónimo) and a transverse NW-SE to E-W system (Villamaría-Termales,Campoalegrito, San Ramón faults). Quaternary stress tensor was obtained with a WSW-ENE direction ofcontraction, and dextral strike slip deformation by simple shear along main longitudinal faults, while left lateraldisplacement is transmitted to most of the NW transverse structures. A WSW-ENE direction of compressionwas also calculated from striated planes of Cretaceous-Paleocene and older rocks, meaning previous rightlateral displacements along longitudinal faults (i.e. Palestina or San Jerónimo). dc.descriptionLos estudios de geología estructural en los alrededores del Volcán Nevado del Ruíz (VNR) mediante la interpretación de fotografías aéreas y modelos digitales del terreno, en conjunción con el análisis de rasgos morfológicos – tectónicos, datos de estrías de falla y cálculo del campo de esfuerzos en el sector norestedel VNR, permitieron inferir un esquema estructural que explica el control en la localización de las fuentes termales y el tránsito de fluidos en general. Los rasgos tectónicos principales del VNR están dominados porfallas longitudinales NE y N-S (fallas Palestina y San Jerónimo) y un sistema transversal NW-SE a E-W (FallaVillamaría-Termales, Campoalegrito, San Ramón, etc). Para el Cuaternario se obtuvo un campo de esfuerzos con dirección de compresión WNW-ESE, que actúa en las estructuras longitudinales con cizalla simple y provoca cinemática predominante lateral derecha, mientras las estructuras transversales se expresan con rasgos similares, pero en cinemática lateral izquierda. Se resalta además, la expresión NE de la Falla Santa Rosa con rasgos que indican movimiento lateral derecho. También se obtuvo un campo de esfuerzos tentativo en rocasdel Cretácico-Paleoceno y más antiguas, con una dirección de compresión WSW-ENE que implica una previacinemática lateral derecha de las estructuras longitudinales como Palestina o San Jerónimo.
