dc.description.abstractenglish | The oxoglaucine is a phytoalexin able to photosensitize 1O2 with 100% efficiency in nonpolar environments. In this study the vertical electronic spectrum of oxoglaucine was calculated. The effect of the methyl and methoxy groups on the vertical electronic spectrum of oxoglaucine was analyzed. The geometries of the electronic ground states of the three proposed molecules (oxoglaucine, oxoglaucine without methyl groups and oxoglaucine without methoxy groups) were optimized using the B3LYP functional in combination with the def-SV(P), def-SVP and TZVP basis sets. Seven minima were located on the potential energy surface of oxoglaucine, three on the potential energy surface of oxoglaucine without methyl groups and one on the potential energy surface of oxoglaucine without methoxy groups. The vertical spectra were calculated using a combination of density functional theory and the multireference configuration interaction method (DFT/MRCI) and time-dependent density functional theory (TDDFT). The results with DFT/MRCI and TZVP, def-SVP and def-SV(P) basis sets show that at the minima of oxoglaucine and of oxoglaucine without methyl groups the lowest excited singlet states are of n* (S1* (S2) type. Triplet states of (T1) y n* (T2) type are energetically accessible from S1. From the energetic point of view it can be proposed that the channel for intersystem crossing 1(n*)3(*) is plausible. The same results are obtained foroxoglaucine without methoxy groups using the TZVP basis set; however, using the def-SVP and def-SV(P) basis sets the states S1 and S2 The experimental absorption spectrum of oxoglaucine in benzene between 320 nm and 480 nm presents its maximum absorption at ~350 nm. In this study, the absorptions of bright states S2 and S5
