dc.description.abstractenglish | This work was focused on the stydy of vacuum mebrane distillation and sweeping gas membrane distillation as new methods for concentration of cassava starch hydrolysates. As for analysis, the effect of the variables: feed rate, feed concentration and feed temperature on the permeate flux and final concentration were studied from 1,6 - 2,2 , 10-20 for both methods (VMD and SGMD) and 30-40 °C for SGMD, 40-60 °C for VMD. For SGMD a Liqui-Cel® (0,58 ) hollow fiber membrane module was used, while for VMD a Whatman® (0,0009348 flat-sheet membrane module was implemented The best results were obtained when working with the highest feed rate and temperature: 2,2 for both methods, 40 °C for SGMD and 60 °C for VMD. It was posible to achieve permeate fluxes 1,5 to 2,4 times higher when increasing 10 °C in the SGMD process ( ̅̅̅̅=0,0395 ). In the same way, permeate fluxes 2,3 to 3 times higher was achieved when increasing 20 °C in VMD ( ̅̅̅̅=13,45 ), under the highest feed rate. Tests for 10 and 8 h (for VMD and SGMD) were also carried out, reaching concentrations of 36 and 58 ° Brix respectively. From the experimental data, modeling of the two techniques studied was performed/conducted using neural networks, showing good predictability for the permeate flux (with errors of less than 23% for SGMD and 22% for VMD) and the concentration of the solution (with errors of less than 3,7% for SGMD and 2,8% for VMD) within the operating ranges studied. Finally, the techniques studied were compared with other methods of concentration: Osmotic Evaporation (EO) and Reverse Osmosis (RO), finding that VMD and SGMD techniques have advantages over them.
