dc.description.abstractenglish | In the petroleum refining processes various mixtures of waste gases are generated, also called "refinery gases (GR)", these gas mixtures constitute a source of natural gas savings, with which they are mixed, or used directly in the equipment, especially in ovens. However, the composition of these gas mixtures is not homogeneous, which generates alterations in the calorific value and in the combustion process. The numerical simulation by Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) has proven to be a highly accurate technique for modeling and simulation of refinery furnaces, which can offer and predict detailed furnace operation information. In the literature, very few CFD simulation studies have been reported where the effect of the variation of fuel composition on the distribution of velocity, temperature and chemical profiles within refinery furnaces and their main operational variables is investigated. Taking into account the above, this project studied the effect of the calorific power variability of refinery gas mixtures in the combustion process in furnaces by means of CFD simulating comparative cases with which it was possible to demonstrate that by increasing the calorific power of the gas mixture, there is an increase in the peak skin tube temperature in the inferior zone of the furnace, the CO2 and NO emissions also increase. On the other hand, if the calorific value decreases, the peak tube skin temperature in the inferior zone is reduced and the same occurs with CO2 and NO emissions. In summary, it was determined that the use of mixtures of high calorific power can become an operational and environmental disadvantage in refinery furnaces. 3 4 Faculty of Physical-Chemical Engineering.
