RESUMEN Se describe la aplicación de una estrategia didáctica basada en investigación, desarrollada con tres grupos de estudiantes de Geología de la UIS durante los años 1999 y 2000. Comprendió la indagación inicial de concepciones alternativas sobre aspectos paleontológicos, lo cual permitió la construcción de tres categorías y fundamentó el contenido de las clases (enfoque expositivo) y de los talleres prácticos (enfoque de resolución de problemas de lápiz y papel y de conflicto conceptual). Finalizó con la evaluación del aprendizaje alcanzado a través de un cuestionario y dos estudios de casos, encontrándose mayor nivel de elaboración y estructuración en algunos conceptos. Palabras clave: Enseñanza de las ciencias, estrategia didáctica, paleontología, geología SUMMARY: The application of a didactic strategy based on investigation is described, developed with three groups of students' Geology of the UIS during the years 1999 and 2000. It’s included the initial inquiry of alternative conceptions on paleontological aspects, that which allowed the construction of three categories and it based the content of the classes (it focuses expositive) and of the practical shops (focus of resolution of pencil and paper problems and of conceptual conflict). Concluded with the evaluation of the learning reached through a questionnaire and two studies of cases, being bigger elaboration level and structuring in some concepts.
