dc.description.abstractenglish | In this work, the thermal stability of Cu+2, Ni+2 and Zn+2 ions adsorbed on a sodium montmorillonite clay from the Valle del Cauca (Colombia) modified with sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), was studied. This study was performed by applying heat treatments on the clay loaded with metal ions, at temperatures of 200, 600, 900 and 1100 ° C, with one, two and three hours of stay, and two atmospheres: one oxidant and other inert of N2. To determine the effectiveness of thermal treatments in terms of stability in aqueous medium, the heat-treated material was subjected to the TCLP leachability test (Toxicity Characteristic Leaching Procedure) of the EPA and the heat treated material was characterized by FT-IR and XRD to determine the effect of treatment on the actual phases and structure. It was found that increasing the temperature in both atmospheres of treatment, increases the stability of the metal ions adsorbed on the clay, and that the stability of the ions is higher in the samples treated in an oxidizing atmosphere for all treatment temperatures. TCLP leachability test revealed that metal retention can be obtained up to 99% in the treatments carried out at 1100 ° C under oxidizing atmosphere. B.
