The following report shows the results from the production of a biodiesel from waste vegetable oils, by means of transesterification with ethyl alcohol at a lab scale. It was demonstrated that the best catalyst is of Basic nature (NaOH and KOH) and the most adequate conditions of molar alcohol/AVU ratio are (3.6-9:1) and a ratio of catalyst to oil of (0.2-0.8)% w/w NaOH/AVU at 77 °C, with a reaction time of two hours. In the report the obtained ethyl ester mixtures were purified and characterized using Infrared spectra for its identification.
