dc.description.abstractLas condiciones actuales del mercado de energía mayorista, la regulación existente y los altos costos de los combustibles en Colombia, son los factores preponderantes dentro de los análisis de viabilidad para los proyectos termoeléctricos existentes e incentivar la inversión dentro del sector para este tipo de generación necesarios para garantizar la confiabilidad para el suministro de energía eléctrica a la creciente demanda. La alta participación de generación hidráulica en el sistema eléctrico colombiano (66%), ha creado una alta dependencia dentro del sistema a la existencia de este recurso, sin embargo, con la regulación el regulador ha intervenido para minimizar este efecto y evitar una alta volatilidad dentro de los precios de bolsa. Los fenómenos naturales que presentan afectación sobre las temporadas de lluvia, y que han intensificado sus efectos sobre las mismas, han sido determinantes en los últimos años para el establecimiento de los precios en bolsa de la energía eléctrica en Colombia. Todo lo expuesto anteriormente sumado a las condiciones de ineficiencia propias del ciclo energético que se maneja dentro de la central Termoeléctrica Termobarranca hacen parte de la investigación adelantada con el propósito de determinar la viabilidad o no para la operación comercial de la central en el mercado de energía mayorista.
dc.description.abstractenglishCurrent conditions in the wholesale energy market, existing regulation and high fuel costs in Colombia, are the preponderant factors within the viability analysis for existing thermoelectric projects, to encourage investment within the sector for this type of generation, and to ensure reliability of electric power supply to the growing demand. The high participation of hydroelectric generation in the Colombian electrical system (66%) has created a high dependence within the system due the existence of this resource; however, with the regulation, the regulator has intervened to minimize this effect and avoid high volatility within the stock market prices. All of the above, added to the inefficiency conditions of the energy cycle within the Termobarranca thermoelectric plant, are part of the advanced research with the purpose of determining the viability or not for the commercial operation of the power plant in the energy market wholesaler.
