dc.descriptionBackground: in the study of HIV / AIDS has been exclude its symbolic, cultural and historical determination. Objective: to describe the application of medical sociology and anthropology in the study of HIV / AIDS. Methods: review based on articles published in PubMed, OVID, LILACS and SciELO, using the search “HIV/AIDS & (Sociology OR Anthropology OR Socio-anthropology)”. Results: three sections are showed, first about HIV/AIDS as a public health problem whose study has been predominant from classical epidemiology, the second present the limitations of the hegemonic model and the third show the applications of sociology and anthropology at the reading of HIV/ AIDS. Conclusion: this text presents some theoretical, conceptual and operational resources of the medical sociology and anthropology may be constitutive of policies, plans and programs of health and to permit a totalized and contextualized interpretation of the disease. MÉD.UIS. 2015;28(1):109-115.Keywords: Sociology, Medical Anthropology, HIV, Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome.en-US
dc.descriptionIntroducción: en el estudio del VIH/SIDA se ha obstado su determinación simbólica e histórico cultural. Objetivo: describir las aplicaciones de la sociología y la antropología médicas en VIH/SIDA. Métodos: revisión basada en publicaciones de Pubmed, OVID, LILACS y Scielo, empleando la búsqueda “VIH/SIDA & (Sociología OR Antropología OR Socioantropología)”. Resultados: se presentan tres acápites, el primero es el VIH/SIDA como problema de salud pública cuyo estudio predominante ha sido desde la epidemiología clásica, el segundo hace explícitas las limitaciones del modelo hegemónico, y el tercero presenta las aplicaciones de la socio-antropología en la lectura del VIH/SIDA. Conclusión: este texto expone cómo algunos recursos teóricos, conceptuales y operativos de la sociología y antropología médicas pueden ser constitutivos de las políticas, planes y programas de salud al permitir una interpretación contextualizada y totalizada de la enfermedad.
