dc.description.abstractenglish | Experimental and computational research has shown that graphene-basedmaterials can be used as demulsifying agents. However, the demulsification mechanism remains under investigation. In this work, molecular dynamics was developed to evaluate theeffect of GO and rGO on the interfacial tension of water and oil emulsions stabilized by anasphaltene model (VO-79). The simulations allowed us to observe at the atomic level the adsorption of VO-79 on the GO sheets and the formation of a binary film (VO-79 + GO). Afteradsorption, the interfacial tension in that system increased, this stimulates destabilization of emulsion. In the case of rGO, it was observed that the sheets displace the VO-79 molecules, breaking the protective film at the interface and eventually destabilizing the emulsion. Onthe other hand, the wettability of the materials was evaluated using molecular dynamicsperforming measurements of the contact angle of a cylindrical drop of water deposited in agraphene sheet and GO sheet with C/O ratio 2.0 and 2.5 supported on a graphene sheet. These results shown that the hydrophilicity of GO decreases as the C/O ratio of the material increases.
