El siguiente artículo tiene como propósito presentar una reflexión teórica sobre la educación colombiana, a partir de la puesta en marcha de la reforma educativa de 1870. Para la realización del escrito se efectuó un balance historiográfico de diferentes textos en los que se incluyen algunos de la época, a través de los cuales se logró construir un sustento teórico sobre la situación educativa durante la segunda mitad del siglo XIX.
Se identificó que el proyecto liberal radical fue esencialmente modernizador y utilitarista, pero que, sin embargo, encontró en el partido conservador y la Iglesia católica sus principales contradictores, quienes lograron modificar y adaptar la reforma a sus intereses, ratificados en la Constitución de 1886 y en el Concordato de 1887 en donde la Iglesia católica retomó el control de la educación en Colombia.
The following article aims to present a theoretical reflection on Colombian education, after the implementation of the educational reform of 1870. For the writing, a historiographic balance was made, of different texts within which some of the time are included, through which, it was possible to build a theoretical support of the educational situation during the second half of the 19th century. It could be identified that the radical liberal project was essentially modernizing and utilitarian, but found in the conservative party and the Catholic Church its main contradictors, who managed to modify and adapt the reform to their interests, enshrined in the 1886 constitution and the 1887 concordat where the Catholic Church retaken control of education in Colombia.
