dc.description.abstractenglish | In the present research work, a methodology was proposed and developed to calculate the thermal comfort obtained when using the solar chimney for passive ventilation in Bucaramanga (7◦07′07′ N, 73◦06′58′′ W). Initially, a theoretical model was implemented to estimate the incident solar irradiance on the room walls and the co- llector of the solar chimney. Next, a steady-state theoretical model was developed and programmed in MATLAB® to predict the air flow induced by the solar chimney, based on models reported by specialized literature. The calculation of the thermal loads of the room was taken into account using the Radiant Time Series Method (RTSM). Subsequently, a steady-state three-dimensional numerical model was built to conduct a parametric study and determine the most convenient geometry for the study latitude. The commercial ANSYS-FLUENT® software was used to solve the go- verning equations of the numerical model, and the results obtained were validated with a scale experimental bench that simulated a cubic room with an attached solar chimney. Finally, the thermal comfort for the representative day of each month was evaluated according to the adaptive method of the AISI / ASHRAE-55 2017 Standard. The results showed that the proposed methodology was adequate to determine the thermal comfort obtained with the solar chimney. It was found that a solar chimney of 4 meters in length, with an inclination of 55◦ attached to a room of 27 cubic meters located in Bucaramanga, can provide thermal comfort according to the terms defined in the ANSI / ASHRAE-55-2017 Standard, without there is a significant impact on construction costs.
