Percepción de la anestesia y del anestesiólogo en pacientes sin experiencia previa anestesico-quirurgica

dc.description.abstractObjetivo: evaluar la percepción de la anestesia y del anestesiólogo en pacientes sin experiencia anestésica previa y en pacientes con su primera experiencia anestésico-quirúrgica. Métodos: Estudio descriptivo y analítico de corte transversal realizado en tres instituciones de Bucaramanga y área metropolitana mediante una encuesta semiestructurada en 298 pacientes, distribuidos en 2 grupos: G1: pacientes sin experiencia anestésico-quirúrgica previa (199 pacientes) y G2: pacientes en POP inmediato de su primera cirugía (99 pacientes). Se excluyeron profesionales y familiares del área de la salud y usuarios de la consulta de anestesia. Validación interna de los instrumentos mediante el alfa de Cronbach >0,7. Resultados: Reconocimiento del anestesiólogo como médico especialista del 90%. En el G1 la percepción del anestesiólogo fue regular y una mejor percepción estuvo asociada al nivel educativo p= 0,041, OR 0,54 (IC 95% 0,3 0,97), 70% reconoció las funciones del anestesiólogo en cirugía, hubo desconocimiento en el rol del anestesiólogo en clínicas de dolor y UCI. En el G2 la percepción del rol del anestesiólogo en la valoración prequirúrgica fue buena, en las actividades fuera del quirófano la percepción fue mala. La percepción de la anestesia fue buena con un promedio del 52.4%, siendo mayor en G1 (55.3%), una mejor percepción estuvo asociada al tipo de institución p=0,0033, OR 0.26 (IC 95% 0.11 0.63) y al nivel educativo universitario p= 0,027, OR 0.50 (IC 95% 0.27 0.92). Para los dos grupos, el anestesiólogo fue el segundo profesional más importante, después del cirujano. El temor por presentar complicaciones mayores fue mayor en los pacientes sin experiencia anestésica (64% vs. 22%). La satisfacción de la anestesia fue excelente en el 98% y del anestesiólogo del 79%. Conclusiones: Se debe mejorar la percepción de la anestesia y el anestesiólogo, principalmente en el rol que desempeña fuera del quirófano.
dc.description.abstractenglishObjective: Evaluate the perception of the anaesthesia and that of the anaesthetist in patients without previous anaesthesia experience and in first experienced anaesthesia-surgical patients. Methods: Descriptive and analytic study of transversal cuts undergone in three institutions of Bucaramanga and its metropolitan area through the use of a semi-structural survey in 298 patients, distributed in two groups: G1: non anaesthesia- surgical experienced patients (199 patients) and G2: patients in immediate POP of their first surgery (99 patients). Health care professionals and relatives of the health care sector workers, as well as, anaesthesia consulting users were excluded. Internal instrument validation by means of Cronbach alfa >0,7. Results: Recognition of the anaesthetist as a specialist physician of 90%. The perception of the anaesthetist in group G1 was fair; better perception was associated with interviewee educational level p= 0,041, OR 0,54 (IC 95% 0,3 0,97). About 70% recognized the anaesthetist role in surgical procedures. There was ignorance about the anaesthetist role in pain clinics and UCI. The perception of the anaesthetist role in pre-surgical evaluations was positive in G2 group; however, the perception was poor in activities outside the operating room. Anaesthesia perception was good with an average of 52.4%, being higher in G1 (55.3%). A better perception was associated with the type of institution p=0,0033, OR 0.26 (IC 95% 0.11 0.63) and the level of post-secondary education p= 0,027, OR 0.50 (IC 95% 0.27 0.92). For both groups, the anaesthetist was the second most important professional, after the surgeon. The fear of major complications was higher in patients without anaesthesia experience (64% vs. 22%). The satisfaction of the anaesthesia was excellent in the 98% and in 79% for the anaesthetist. Conclusions: The perception of the anaesthesia and that of the anaesthetist need to be improved, principally in the understanding of the role they play outside the operating room.
