dc.description.abstractenglish | The petrochemical industry is one of the important sectors of the Colombian economy, specialized in the production and commercialization of compounds derived from oil and natural gas. Carbon steel is the most widely used metal in this industry for its outstanding mechanical properties and low cost, ideal characteristics of large-scale processes. However, it is a metal susceptible to the natural phenomenon of corrosion and aggravated by the aggressive media involved in the processes of that industry, mainly CO2 media, acidic media and chlorinated media. In this sense, considerable investments are required in maintenance, repair and/or replacement of deteriorated structures and at the same time technological strategies are developed to mitigate corrosion. Hence, the objective of this scientific surveillance study is to carry out a detailed analysis under the parameters of the PRISMA methodology of the different technological alternatives and the state-of-the-art of corrosion protection on carbon steel used in the petrochemical industry. Initially, aspects such as historical evolution were investigated by classifying the different protection technologies, according to the nature of their materials, then the functionalization strategies used in the coatings are cataloged; subsequently, the industrial and ecological relevance of the protection strategies was determined by analyzing the environmental impact and the most favorable protection proposals with nature. Finally, the challenges of anticorrosive alternatives were compiled, specifying the future prospects for the protection of carbon steel in the petrochemical industry. Among other aspects, it is concluded that the scientific efforts are led by industrialized countries such as China, India, and the USA, focused on the development of multifunctional, resistant and eco-friendly coatings, however, the future perspectives are multilayer films, highlighting the sol-gel method as an alternative to ecological deposition.
