dc.description.abstract	El estudio fue llevado a cabo en tres tramos de la subcuenca Lebrija Medio ubicada en el Valle del Magdalena medio al oriente de Colombia, departamento de Santander. Entre Enero y Agosto del 2008 en épocas de niveles de agua bajos y altos del río, se analizó la distribución, abundancia y hábitat de la nutria de río neotropical (Lontra longicaudis) a partir de sus registros fecales y la relación de estos con la calidad del hábitat de ribera y del disturbio antropogénico presente en el área. Las nutrias se distribuyen de manera agregada en el área de estudio y su concentración depende principalmente del aislamiento del disturbio antropogénico, otros datos permitieron postular una reducción substancial del área de distribución natural, así como del número de individuos con respecto a épocas pasadas. Se presentó una tendencia a la estacionalidad de la abundancia relativa de la especie, la cual coincide con los periodos de aguas bajas en la región. L. longicaudis prefiere áreas con características específicas de hábitat, sitios de marcaje conspicuos y con alto valor de escape; los sitios usados variaron significativamente de los disponibles en el área. La calidad del hábitat vario gradual y sustancialmente. Las madrigueras principales son en su mayoría cavidades naturales bajo las raíces de los árboles.
dc.description.abstractenglish	The study was developed in three locations of the Lebrija River, in the Middle Magdalena Valley to the east of Colombia, Department of Santander. Between January and August 2008 in times of lower and higher water levels of the river, it was analyzed the distribution, abundance and habitat of the neotropical river otter (Lontra longicaudis) from their spraints records and the relation between quality riverbank habitat and the anthropogenic disturbance in the area. Otters are distributed in an aggregate way on the study area and their concentration depends mainly on the isolation of anthropogenic disturbance, another data let to postulate a substantial reduction of the natural distribution area, as well as the number of the individuals with respect to past time. This showed a seasonality tendency of the relative abundance of the specie, which coincides with lower and higher water levels of the region. L. longicaudis prefers areas with specific characteristics of habitat, conspicuous places of marking and with high value of escape; the used places varied significantly from those available in the area. The quality of the habitat changed gradually and substantially. The main shelters are mostly natural cavities under tree roots.
