| dc.description.abstractenglish | Every fluid transport system has an associated piping system, which makes the movement of the fluid etween two points possible. This system turns out to be critical, because the unexpected failure of any component can produce the entire shutdown of the plant. The piping mechanical design looks forward to avoid those failures, evaluating the stresses produced y the loads and the subsequent validation with the allowable stress of the material. This task has evolved significantly since the time when specialized engineers in this topic were required for the study of airly complex systems, through calculations which could take several weeks. Nowadays, with the modern computers, complex analysis can take just some minutes. This has generated a mystery around the inal results from software. This is why this German Seminar was developed, to provide the engineering mechanical design fundamentals to allow the engineer understand the results given by the computer, make he suitable changes to optimize the system, and realize the possible unreasonable results given by the software. The topics treated in this Seminar were divided in two main groups: Piping Fundamentals and Mechanical Design. The first part deals with principal definitions, standards, materials, fittings, valves, instruments, langes, welding, threads, piping hydraulics and integrity of the piping systems. The second part studied he mechanical design, following the next topics: Strength of materials, thermal expansion and flexibility, code requirements, supports, expansion joints, connections to static and rotating equipment, required and generated information by the piping analyst and special cases (buried and subsea piping). | |
