dc.description.abstract	La tribu Geonomateae es una de las más diversas, importantes a nivel ecológico y representativas de la familia de las palmas (Arecaceae) en el neotrópico. Aunque presenta gran parte de su diversidad sobre el territorio colombiano, su composición y distribución a nivel nacional y regional, así como su estado de conservación y demás aspectos biológicos, han permanecido escasamente estudiados, además, las colecciones representativas depositadas en los herbarios del país son pobres y fragmentadas. Con base en esto, a partir de las colecciones tanto de órganos vegetativos como reproductivos de las palmas en su hábitat natural y del análisis de flores y botones florales fijados en líquido mediante microscopía electrónica de barrido (SEM), se llevó a cabo una caracterización morfológica detallada de las especies pertenecientes la tribu Geonomateae que habitan en el departamento de Santander, Colombia. Se proporciona una clave taxonómica para la determinación en campo junto a las descripciones morfológicas ilustradas para cada especie. Los géneros Geonoma, Pholidostachys y Welfia fueron registrados con un total de diez especies, incrementando la diversidad previamente reportada para la tribu en el departamento. Estos resultados constituyen la base para adelantar investigaciones sobre conservación y otros aspectos de carácter urgente, casi inexplorados hasta el momento en el departamento y en el país.
dc.description.abstractenglish	The tribe Geonomateae is one of the richest and most diverse, ecologically important and representative of the palm family (Arecaceae) in the neotropics. Although it shows its highest diversity on the Colombian territory, its composition and distribution at national and regional level, its state of conservation and other biological aspects, have remained barely surveyed; in addition, the representative collections deposited in the herbaria of the country are poor and fragmented. Based on this, in order to carry out the detailed morphological characterization of the Geonomoid palms naturally distributed in the department of Santander, Colombia, both vegetative and reproductive organs were harvested from each of the species in their natural habitats. Dissection and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were performed on male and female flowers and floral buds, previously fixed in liquid. A taxonomic identification key for field determination, next to a detailed and illustrated morphological description for every species is provided. The genus Geonoma, Pholidostachys and Welfia were recorded with a total of ten species, increasing the previously reported diversity for the tribe in the department. The results obtained here are the basis for future research on conservation and other urgent aspects, almost unexplored so far in the department and in the country.
