dc.description.abstract	El presente informe de investigación, pretende describir la postura de la comunidad médico-científica y política en relación a la lucha, tratamiento y profilaxis contra la tuberculosis pulmonar en Colombia, y en especial en la ciudad de Bucaramanga, entre los años 1916 y 1936. Esta investigación es de carácter cualitativo ya que aborda la recolección, la clasificación y el análisis de la fuente primaria, a partir de criterios de contenido y no de cantidad en términos de morbilidad y mortalidad; y de carácter regional, sin desconocer las dinámicas de la ciencia en Colombia, marcadas por la influencia de corrientes y avances científicos europeos y norteamericanos, además de saberes desarrollados en las principales escuelas medicas del país. En aspectos teóricos no se pretende hacer un estudio con un enfoque ni externalista ni internalista, sino más bien buscar un equilibrio entre ambos. Se tomará también lo planteado por los Estudios Sociales de Ciencia y la Nueva Historia de Ciencia Latinoamericana, en donde se analizará la enfermedad como una realidad biológica, pero también como una construcción social y política. Se iniciará por identificar los hitos que marcaron el descubrimiento de la tuberculosis pulmonar a lo largo de la historia, sus principales características y su patología; luego se analizarán los planteamientos de los médicos colombianos en relación a la profilaxis y tratamiento de la enfermedad en la primera mitad del siglo XX; se continuará por identificar las políticas públicas que surgieron en este periodo, para controlar el desarrollo de la enfermedad; y por último se expondrá la postura de médicos y legistas nacionales en relación a los aspectos sociales de la enfermedad, identificando las características de los grupos mayormente afectados por esta.
dc.description.abstractenglish	This research report aims to describe the point of view of the medical-scientific and political community in relation to the fight, treatment and prophylaxis of the pulmonary tuberculosis in Colombia, especially in the city of Bucaramanga between the years 1916 and 1936. The nature of the current research is qualitative as long as it deals with the collection, classification and analysis of primary sources based on content criteria regardless the morbidity and mortality data. And it also has a regional nature bearing in mind the dynamics of science in Colombia that is influenced by the European and North American scientific trends and researches as well as the knowledge developed in the main medical schools of the country. It is not intended to develop an externalist or internalist study approach on theoretical topics but rather to seek a balance between the both of them. It will be also an analysis of the disease as a biological reality as well as a social and political construct based on the Social Studies of Science and the New History of Latin American Science Approach. The report will start by the acknowledge of the milestones that identified the discovery of pulmonary tuberculosis throughout history, its main characteristics and its pathology. After that the Colombian physicians' proposals regarding the prophylaxis and treatment of the disease in the first half of the 20th century will be analyzed. Moreover the identification of the public policies that emerged in this period to control the development of the disease will take place. Finally the point of view of the national physicians and legists to the social aspects of the disease will be exposed, identifying the characteristics of the groups most affected by this illness.
