dc.description.abstract	En el presente artículo se hace un análisis de accidentes de tránsito en motocicletas en el área metropolitana de la ciudad de Bucaramanga. Se realizará un estudio de la cantidad de muertes y lesiones ocurridas entre los años comprendidos del 2010 - 2015, debido al incremento en el número de motocicletas como en el número de accidentes de tránsito. El objetivo principal es el diagnóstico de las causas como variables sociodemográficas que se asocian significativamente con los accidentes de tránsito. Posteriormente se realiza un análisis de factores de riesgo y probabilidad de ocurrencia para futuros accidentes donde las variables a estudiar fueron: género, rango de edad, escolaridad, mes del año, día del mes, rango hora accidente, víctima del accidente de tránsito, tipo accidente tránsito, detalle objeto colisión y detalle factor causal, donde se encontraron los principales agentes que incrementan la posibilidad de que ocurra un accidente fatal de acuerdo con la base de datos proporcionada por el Instituto Nacional de Medicina Legal. De igual manera se efectúa la ubicación de los accidentes en el software ARCGIS, donde se pudo determinar visualmente algunos sectores donde se presenta accidentalidad y sitios críticos, con el objetivo de implementar el uso de este software en el Instituto de Medicina Legal y la Dirección de Tránsito de Bucaramanga, y que sea útil para la observación, análisis, control y prevención de los accidentes. Finalmente se plantean algunas alternativas de intervención dirigida para mejorar las condiciones de tránsito y seguridad de los usuarios, principalmente en actividades bajo costo y a corto plazo.
