dc.description.abstract	El desempeño académico de los estudiantes de ingeniería es un tema que preocupa a las directivas de la Escuela de Ingeniería Civil por los bajos índices observados durante los últimos años. La Escuela consciente de la importancia de conocer de manera sistemática cuál ha sido el desempeño de sus estudiantes, y aún más, cuales son las evidencias de los factores que pueden influir en dicho desempeño, está promoviendo la realización de estudios que contribuyan a entender la actual situación de sus estudiantes y a proponer estrategias de mejoramiento. El siguiente trabajo de grado presenta los resultados de una investigación sobre el desarrollo de las competencias académicas de los estudiantes de la escuela de Ingeniería Civil de la Universidad Industrial de Santander, durante el periodo 2006 al 2013, basados en las pruebas estandarizadas SABER 11 y SABER PRO, aplicadas por el ICFES. En el estudio se emplearon técnicas estadísticas de normalidad, correlaciones y regresiones lineales como herramientas para hacer el análisis a los datos. Se alinearon, compararon y relacionaron competencias específicas y generales evaluadas en el SABER PRO durante los periodos de estudio y los puntajes obtenidos en la prueba SABER 11 para las asignaturas de matemáticas y lenguaje. Así mismo, se identificaron posibles factores de influencia sobre las competencias de los estudiantes por medio de tendencias lineales que describieran el fenómeno.
dc.description.abstractenglish	The academic performance of engineering students is a topic that concerns the civil engineering school directives because of their low rates observed during the last years. The school being conscious of the importance of knowing in a systematic way which has been the performance of its students, and even more, which have been the evidences of the factors that could have been influential in this alleged performance, are promoting the realization of studies that contribute to understand the current situation of its students and to propose strategies to improve it. The next thesis presents the results of a research about the development of the academic proficiencies of the students of the Civil Engineering School at Universidad Industrial de Santander, during the period from 2006 to 2013, based in the standardized tests SABER 11 and SABER PRO, applied by the ICFES (Instituto Colombiano para el Fomento de la Educación Superior). In the study, statistics of normality, linear correlations and regressions were used as tools to make the analysis of the data. Additionally the specific and general skills evaluated in SABER PRO and the scores obtained in the SABER 11 test in the subjects of mathematics and language were aligned, compared and related. Furthermore, the potential factors that influence students at the moment of answering the tests were identified through linear tendencies that described the phenomenon.
