| dc.description.abstractenglish | Geographic Information Systems (GIS) are a technology which has been developed throughtime to aid decision making of all sorts, including the administrative kind. Taking into accountthis situation, the present undergraduate thesis has been elaborated. The present undergraduate thesis is the result of a countless number of tasks which includeresearch, consultation, information gathering, digitalization of this information, realityconceptualization, advanced open source technology implementation for the display ofgeographic information, programming and web application design, among others. All of theseefforts were made to develop a Geographic Information System (GIS) prototype which wouldaid the management of the physical resources of the Universidad Industrial de Santandersectional, in Socorro, Santander. This is no more than the first stage of a much larger project which seeks after the expansionof a Geographic Information System (GIS) coverage. This final GIS attempts to aid not onlythe physical resources management, but also the human and technical resources of thewhole physical roster of the Universidad Industrial de Santander. One of the main conclusions reached through the process of developing the prototypesubject of this project, is the imperative need to continue the efforts in the furthermoreelaboration of the prototype, in order to achieve the long term objectives of the global project | |
