dc.description.abstract	El objetivo principal de éste trabajo es determinar el estado actual del turismo de salud en el Área Metropolitana de Bucaramanga como parte de la Agenda de Competitividad de Santander, para este fin se buscó conceptualizar el turismo y en especial ésta tipología, acompañado de la regulación y normatividad existente para este sector, para entender la dinámica presente en el turismo de salud se contextualizó la situación internacional y nacional del mercado que permitan conocer las principales tendencias y prácticas para así entender los retos a los que se enfrenta el sector en la región. La metodología utilizada fue un análisis descriptivo de ciertas condiciones base que propician el crecimiento y la productividad del turismo y cómo influye en el desarrollo del departamento, para complementar se realizó un análisis FODA para conocer la situación interna y externa en la que se desenvuelve el sector y así conocer las fortalezas y debilidades. De esta forma se llegó a la conclusión que el turismo de salud en la región cuenta con condiciones favorables para ser un destino competitivo a nivel internacional pero aún cuenta con dificultades que no permiten la consolidación del Área Metropolitana de Bucaramanga como exportador de servicios de salud.
