| dc.description.abstractenglish | This artistic project presents a series of five acrylic paintings on canvas that reinterpret iconic memes from digital culture in order to raise awareness of endangered animal species found in Bucaramanga and the Department of Santander. Through humor, irony, and visual recontextualization, the project focuses on five species selected from twenty documented threatened animals: the Blue-billed Curassow (*Crax alberti*), the Santander Poison Frog (*Andinobates virolinensis*), the Yellow-eared Parrot (*Ognorhynchus icterotis*), the Santander Partridge (*Odontophorus strophium*), and Niceforo's Wren (*Thryophilus nicefori*), based on records of threatened species reported for Colombia (Valderrama et al., 2022). The project explores the relationship between ecological information and contemporary visual languages of mass circulation by using the communicative potential of memes to encourage new perspectives on environmental issues. Drawing on artistic practices based on parody, appropriation, and the reinterpretation of popular culture imagery, the project examines how digital culture can become a resource for reflecting on the relationship between human beings and the natural environment. From a technical perspective, acrylic painting enabled a dynamic and visually expressive process suitable for translating digital formats into pictorial language. The project also emerged from a personal concern regarding the deterioration of local ecosystems and an interest in making vulnerable species more visible through a contemporary artistic proposal accessible to diverse audiences. | |
