El 7 de mayo de 1711 nace en Edimburgo David Hume, historiador, economista y filósofo, quien hizo de este último saber un modo de vida, independiente de que críticos del momento, denostaran el escepticismo característico de su sistema de pensamiento o reconocieran la veta naturalista, también propia de su filosofía.
