The following article proposes a reflection on the dual role played by archivists in relation to the evaluation the documents. The first role is related to technical processes, especially in corporates scenarios where Knowledge Management has lately had an important participation; the second role, on the other hand, is linked to the social and historical sensitivity to assume the archivist as a manager collective memory. Both aspects, in my view, should characterize a complete archivist, however, there are ethical issues that seem far apart. These nuances complicate the work of professional Archivist, who ultimately, despite scientific filter to have submitted their personal criteria, judged by the documental value what society should and should not remember.
