RESUMEN. Los sistemas de telemetría AMR (Automatic Meter Reading), como su nombre lo indica, son aquellos que permíten realizar una lectura automática de manera remota y sin necesidad de un contacto directo con la variable o el elemento de medicíón. En la actualidad esta tecnología es aplicada en diferentes ámbitos dada su gran utilidad en el monitoreo y control de procesos industriales, sistemas seguridad, etc. Este articulo se centra en el diseño de un sistema prototipo con el cual se pueda obtener en tiempo real el consumo registrado en los medidores de agua residenciales haciendo uso de una línea telefónica como medio de transmisión, dado que actualmente en las empresas de acueducto del pais esta operación se viene realizando de manera manual y local. La importancia de este sistema radica en el uso que se hace de redes de comunicaciones ya estructuradas y en la posibilidad de modificar los medidores de agua actuales sin incurrir en el costo de reemplazarlos, lo cual representa un ahorro tanto para la empresa como para el usuario final. Como complemento y para hacer más robusto este sistema, se presentan además las consideraciones necesarias para hacer uso de una comunicación inalámbrica que involucre la centralización de datos aprovechando la versatilidad y amplia difusión del Internet. PALABRAS CLAVES Sistema de telemetría Sistemas de lectura automática AMR Línea telefónica Detector de tonos multifrecuenciales - DTMf GPRS ABSTRACT The telemetry systems AMR (Automatic Meter Reading), as its name indicates, they are systems that allows to make an automatic reading in a remote distance and without of a direct contact need with the variable or the measurement element system. It's currently applied in different environments due of many uses of monitoring and industrial process control, the Security System, etc. This paper is focused for and in the design of a prototype system where it is able to obtain in a real time the recorded data in the home water readers by and through a phone line by transmitting way, as today water distribution companies employ a manual application for the reading consume of water. The most important of this, is the use of the currents cellular communication nets and the possibility of modify the current water reading without increase the replacement of costs, giving a great saving for the user and the company. Besides, In arder to explain better this, the necessary considerations that are explained is the use of a current wireless communication that involves the centralization of data taking advantage of the versatility and wide diffusion of the Internet.
