Abstract
Description
ABSTRACTThis article is a methodological reflection, resulting from a research study on the construction of the political identity of the Labor Day protesters in Bogota, Colombia, conducted between 2006 and 2010, based on a set of Visual Research Methods-VRM-. Our goal is to demonstrate the usefulness of these methods for research, particularly with younger generations adapted to technologies, specially image processing ones.We begin introducing a historical and critical background of the most important precepts of the VRM, then analyze the impact of technology in the new generations, finally we propose new procedures and considerations for research based on visual and digital technologies. We argue mainly that VRM -unlike what is traditionally said- are not always invasive, and that the concept of participation, thanks to digital technologies and the Internet is uplift. We conclude by noting the importance of discussing the role of images in Internet research. Keywords: Visual Research Methods, Digital Research, Digital Natives, Visual Ethnography.
