This study was performed on the farm „El Loquetal“, located in „El Barral“ county in the municipality of Malaga at 2200 meters above sea level and having an average temperature of 18 degrees C. Between October 4th and December 27th of 2010 the study was realized to evaluate the technical and economic efficiency of four different kinds of concentrated food for hogs for the growth stages (25 to 55 kg of live weight) and in the finalization stage (55 to 90 kg of live weight. Aparently all concentraded foods are similar in their offer of nutrients but with significant diferences in their commercial value. Two of the evaluated concentrated foods were in an „Elite“ or „Tecnificada“ line („E“) and two from a commercial line („C“) and produced by two diferent companies. A and B, which were used in four treatments: T1EA, T2EB, T3CA and T4CB with three repetitions per treatment. 12 castrated pigs of the race „Landrace x Pietran“ were used in a completly random design using each pig as a representative of an experimental unit. Each pig was allowed water and food of its respective diet as much as it wanted. During the growing stage the average weight gain per animal was 0.786 for T1EA, 0.653 for T2EB, 0.640 for T3CA, and 0.529 for T4CB. The first group to reach 55 kg of live weight was T1EA at 42 days since the start of the study. The groups recieving treatments 2,3 and 4 to reach the expected weight after 7, 14 and 21 more days in that order. A similar tendency was found in the conversion index (IC) 1.88, 2.42, 2.58 and 3.37 in the same order with T1EA being significantly different from the others (PL 0.05). Results on the finalisation stage showed a similar tendency to the growing stage. The first group reaching 90 kg live weight was T1EA, also after 42 days, when the others reached 84.3, 53.8 and 69.8 kg of live weight for treatments 1,2,3 and 4 respectivly. Daily weight gains on kg live weight were 0.889, 0.871, 0.863 and 0.706 for treatments 1,2,3 and 4 respectivly. The same tendency wa found for IC with 2.67, 2.95, 3.07 and 4.12 in the order for each treatment. The performance was superior for T1 with an efficiency of 81% and of 78, 77 and 76% for the others in the same order. However, economical efficiancy did not follow the same tendency showing that it was only profitable to use 2.58% of T1EA on growing and finalisation stages due to difficulties faced on growing hogs by giving them commercialy bought concentrated food exclusivly.
