dc.description.abstractOBJETIVO GENERAL Determinar los factores que generan síndrome confusional agudo en las unidades de cuidados intensivos y elaborar una guía útil para orientar el manejo de esta alteración en el paciente de UCI. JUSTIFICACION El delirio es el trastorno psiquiátrico más frecuente en UCI. Produce alteraciones fisiológicas y psicológicas importantes que influyen en el desenlace del paciente. También ha sido denominado fiPsicosis de la UCIfl, fiSíndrome de la Unidad de Cuidados intensivosfl y fiSíndrome confusional agudofl (SCA). Es un padecimiento subdiagnósticado y frecuentemente no tratado, con alta morbilidad y mortalidad. Muchos profesionales de la salud consideran que el delirio es un problema frecuente y grave, y solo existen una minoría utiliza herramientas especificas para la detección y manejo sistemático de la enfermedad, lo cual refleja la falta de conocimientos en relación a este tema, pues las consecuencias negativas del delirio van mas allá de las derivadas de las conductas agresivas y autolesivas de los pacientes. METODOS Se realizará una revisión de la literatura de las principales bases de datos del área de la salud como son: Ovid, Pubmed, Hinari, Scielo y Proquest. RESULTADOS Dar a conocer documentación actualizada y especifica sobre el SCA/UCI, los diferentes factores que influyen para la aparición de este cuadro, así como los cuidados que se pueden proveer a las personas con SCA/UCI, de tal manera que oriente mejor hacia identificación temprana de problema y su atención oportuna. dc.description.abstractenglishTo determine the factors that generate the acute confusional syndrome in the intensive care unit and to elaborate a useful guide to orientate the management of this alteration in the ICU patients. JUSTIFICATION Delirium is the most frequent psychiatric disorder found in the ICU. It produces important physiological and psychological changes that affect the patient™s recovery. It has also been called fiPsychosis in the ICUfl, fiIntensive Care Unit Syndromefl and fiAcute Confusional Syndromefl (ACS). It is a subdiagnostic ailment usually mistreated, with high morbility and mortality. Many health care professionals consider delirium to be a serious, frequently occurring problem, and just a minority use specific tools to stop and manage the disease systematically which reflects a lack of knowledge in relation to this topic. The negative consequences of delirium go farther than those derived from the agressive conduct and self-mutilation in patients.METHODS A revision of the literature of the main databases in the field of study will be reviewed. These are: Ovid, Pubmed, Hinari, Scielo y Proquest. RESULTS The result of this is an advisory to the reader that updated and specific documentation about ACS and ICU exists along with the different factors that affect this syndrome, and the special care that needs to be given to people with ACS and ICU syndromes. The main objective is to advise health personnel and medical staff about the early identification of this problem and its appropriate treatment.
