dc.description.abstractMediante la aplicación de un test, compuesto por 23 ejercicios de álgebra, que fue analizado bajo la teoría del modelo Rasch se cuantificó la habilidad algebraica de 319 estudiantes que ingresaron a la Universidad Industrial de Santander (UIS) en el segundo semestre de 2009 a las carreras de Ingenierías, Ciencias, Licenciatura en Matemáticas; estimando a su vez la dificultad de los ítems que componían el test. Permitiendo iniciar la construcción de un banco de ítems para evaluar el pensamiento algebraico. En el análisis del test se identificaron los errores algebraicos más comunes que comenten los estudiantes. Los ítems donde más se detectaron errores fueron aquellos donde se debía simplificar fracciones algebraicas y aplicar la propiedad distributiva. Las habilidades de los estudiantes estuvieron en un rango de -2.30 2.75 lógitos con una distribución aproximadamente normal con media -0.08 y desviación estándar de 0.83. Al comparar el desempeño de los estudiantes por carreras, se evidenció un mejor desempeño por parte de los estudiantes de Ingenierías, sus habilidades estuvieron en un rango de -2.00 a 2.75 lógitos con una distribución aproximadamente normal con media 0.01 y desviación estándar 0.84. Los estudiantes de Ciencias tuvieron habilidades en un rango de -1.57 a 1.57 lógitos con una distribución aproximadamente normal con media -0.08 y desviación estándar 0.62 y los estudiantes de Matemáticas tuvieron habilidades en un rango de -2.30 a 2.26 lógitos con una distribución aproximadamente normal con media -0.23 y desviación estándar 0.88. El rango de dificultad de los ítems fue de -2.00 a 2.78 lógitos, con media 0 y desviación estándar 1.07. El valor de los estadísticos Infit y Outfit, tanto para los ítems como para las personas, reflejaron un buen ajuste de los datos al modelo.
dc.description.abstractenglishThrough the application of a test, compound by 23 exercises of Algebra, analyzed by the theory of Rasch model, it was quantified the algebraic ability of 319 students that entered to Universidad Industrial de Santander (UIS) in the second semester of 2009 to the programs of Engineering, Sciences, Mathematics Teaching Program; considering at the same time the difficulty of the items that composed the test. It allows starting the construction of a bank of items to evaluate the algebraic thinking. From the analysis of the test, they were identified the most common algebraic errors that students make. The items where the students made more mistakes were the ones where algebraic fractions should be simplified and apply the distributive property. The abilities of the students were in a rank of -2.30 2.75 with an approximately normal distribution with average -0.08 and standard deviation of 0.83. When comparing students’ fulfillment by programs, it was evident a better one by Engineering students, their abilities were, in a rank from -2.00 to 2.75 with approximately normal distribution with average 0.01 and standard deviation 0.84. Science students had abilities in a rank from -1.57 to 1.57 with approximately normal distribution with average -0.08 and standard deviation 0.62. Mathematics students had abilities, in a rank from -2.30 a 2.26, with approximately normal distribution with average -0.23 and standard deviation of 0.88. The rank of the difficulty of the items was from -2.00 to 2.78, with average 0 and standard deviation 1.07. The values of the Infit and outfit statistics, both the items and people, showed a good fit of the data to the model.
