dc.description.abstractEl Grupo Girón, definido así en primera instancia por Hedberg (1931) ha sido objeto de gran cantidad de estudios en la zona debido a la confusión generada en cuanto a las unidades que lo conforman por las diferencias en su litología y variación anómala en su espesor. Trabajos recientes sobre la geología estructural en el flanco oeste de la Cordillera Oriental y el Valle Medio del Magdalena correlacionan estructuras regionales como la Falla Bucaramanga y Falla del Suárez con zonas transversales. Con el tiempo estas fallas principales han afectado las unidades Jurásicas sedimentarias, entre ellas, el Grupo Girón, unidad en la que como se mencionó anteriormente se evidencia un drástico cambio de espesor en la zona. En busca de entender mejor la implicación de estos sistemas de fallas en la sedimentación de esta unidad, se realizó un control litológico en ocho sectores escogidos principalmente en base a la cercanía del paso de las fallas principales y las fallas transversales, también un control estructural y el posterior procesamiento de datos con el objetivo de visualizar los esfuerzos principales asociados a cada zona; con el fin de correlacionar los datos obtenidos en campo se generaron cuatro cortes geológicos, permitiendo estudiar la disposición y variación del Grupo Girón, determinando que los sistemas de Fallas Bucaramanga y Suárez afectaron la sin y post depositación de esta unidad. *
dc.description.abstractenglishThe Girón Group, defined by Hedberg (1931) has been the object of many studies in the area, mainly due to the confusion generated in terms of the units that define the group, the differences in lithology, and the anomalous variation in its thickness. Recent publications in the western flank of the Cordillera Oriental and the Middle Valley of Magdalena correlate regional structures such as the Bucaramanga Fault and the Suárez Fault with other transverse fault zones. Over geologic time, these fault systems have affected the sedimentary Jurassic units, including the Girón Group, a unit in which a drastic change in thickness is evident over the area of study. In order to understand the influence of these fault systems in the sedimentation of this unit, this work included a lithological control in eight sectors chosen mainly based on the proximity of the main faults and the transverse faults; also a structural control in order to visualize the main tectonic stresses associated with each sector. To correlate the data obtained from the field work, four geological sections were generated, allowing the study of the variation in thickness of the Girón Group, determining that the Bucaramanga Fault and the Suárez Fault affected the sin and post deposition of this unit.
