dc.description.abstractEl cierre de brechas género en el desempeño de la comunidad estudiantil es de importancia para el logro de los propósitos de la Política de Equidad de Género en la Universidad Industrial de Santander (UIS), particularmente, conduce al objetivo central de consolidar una cultura institucional de valoración de las diferencias y eliminación de todas las formas de discriminación, con el fin de lograr la igualdad de oportunidades. Por ello, y teniendo en cuenta las brechas de género que existen en la Universidad en los programas académicos afines a las áreas de ciencia, tecnología, ingeniería y matemáticas-STEM, en la investigación “Análisis comparativo de prácticas y estrategias institucionales que eliminan las barreras para las mujeres en STEM. Un análisis para la Universidad Industrial de Santander” se propuso comprar las prácticas y estrategias para reducir las brechas de género en carreras STEM adelantadas por la Universidad Industrial de Santander con las ejecutadas por la Universidad líder en resultados, para proponer líneas generales que permitan aportar al diseño, desarrollo y seguimiento del Plan de Igualdad de Oportunidades de la UIS. La primera fase de la investigación, de la cual se presentan los resultados en este informe, tuvo por objetivo identificar la institución líder en el país en el cierre de brechas de género en las pruebas estandarizadas de razonamiento cuantitativo. Para el cumplimiento de lo anterior, y teniendo en cuenta la metodología propuesta por el Instituto Colombiano para la Evaluación (ICFES), se realiza una estimación de valor agregado para las universidades de Colombia, utilizando modelos multinivel y el método de vecindad de comparación. Los hallazgos identifican como institución líder a la Universidad Nacional de Colombia, posicionándola como la institución que mayor valor agregado aporta a las mujeres y, a su vez, como una de las IES que cierra en mayor medida las brechas de género en el desempeño.
dc.description.abstractenglishClosing gender gaps in the performance of the student community is important for the achievement of the purposes of the Gender Equity Policy at the Universidad Industrial de Santander (UIS), particularly, it leads to the central objective of consolidating an institutional culture of valuing differences and eliminating all forms of discrimination, in order to achieve equal opportunities. Therefore, and taking into account the gender gaps that exist at the University in academic programs related to the areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics-STEM, in the research "Comparative analysis of institutional practices and strategies that eliminate barriers for women in STEM. An analysis for the Universidad Industrial de Santander" it was proposed to compare the practices and strategies to reduce gender gaps in STEM careers advanced by the Universidad Industrial de Santander with those executed by the leading University in results, to propose general guidelines to contribute to the design, development and monitoring of the Equal Opportunity Plan of the UIS. The first phase of the research, the results of which are presented in this report, had the objective of identifying the leading institution in the country in closing gender gaps in standardized quantitative reasoning tests. In order to accomplish this, and taking into account the methodology proposed by the Colombian Institute for Evaluation (ICFES), an estimation of added value for Colombian universities is made, using multilevel models and the neighborhood method of comparison. The findings identify the National University of Colombia as the leading institution, positioning it as the institution that provides the greatest added value to women and, in turn, as one of the institutions that closes the gender gaps in performance to the greatest extent.
