dc.description.abstract	Esta tesis de maestría analiza el desarrollo de la guerra de los Mil Días en Santander (1899-1902), el último conflicto armado del siglo XIX en Colombia. Estructurado en tres partes y compuesta de 11 capítulos, el trabajo muestra que la guerra afectó la vida cotidiana de la población, primero, por la multiplicación de las fuerzas de combate, segundo, por el incremento del número de hombres en armas y, finalmente, por un aumento de los actos de violencia. Con base en fuentes cualitativas y cuantitativas de archivos y bibliotecas colombianas se construyó una base de datos prosopográfica que cuenta con más de 14.000 registros de actores de la guerra (hombres y mujeres), batallas, ejércitos, insubordinaciones, formas de ascenso militar, entre otras cosas. Para el análisis, se dividen las fuerzas de combate movilizadas entre las de carácter permanente (ejército colombiano) y las intermitentes (ejércitos rebeldes y guerrillas), diferenciadas por el tiempo que duraban en el servicio. El enfoque social permite observar participantes de diferentes regiones, clases sociales, edades, géneros, ocupaciones, intereses y formas de resistencia. Se describen también varias batallas, escaramuzas, riñas interpersonales que indican los cambios de ritmo de la dinámica bélica. En síntesis, la tesis demuestra que la guerra alteró la vida cotidiana de un amplio sector de la población santandereana al hacerla partícipe directa de la movilización armada en las fuerzas de combate o indirecta por el encarecimiento de los alimentos, las enfermedades infecciosas y las tragedias familiares.
dc.description.abstractenglish	This master's thesis analyzes the development of the War of the Thousand Days in Santander (1899-1902), the last armed conflict of the nineteenth century in Colombia. Structured in three parts and composed of 11 chapters, the work shows that the war affected the daily life of the population, first, by the multiplication of the fighting forces, second, by the increase in the number of men in arms and, finally, by an increase in the number of acts of violence. Based on qualitative and quantitative sources from Colombian archives and libraries, a prosopographic database was built which has more than 14,000 records of actors in war (men and women), battles, armies, insubordinations, forms of military promotion among other things. For the analysis, the mobilized combat forces are divided between those of a permanent nature (Colombian army) and the intermittent ones (rebel armies and guerrillas), differentiated by the time they lasted in the service. The social approach allows to observe participants from different regions, social classes, ages, genders, occupations, interests and forms of resistance. It also describes several battles, skirmishes, interpersonal quarrels that indicate the changes of rhythm of the war dynamics. In summary, the thesis shows that the war altered the daily life of a large sector of the population of Santander by making it a direct participant in the armed mobilization in combat forces or indirect due to rising food prices, infectious diseases and family tragedies.
