dc.description.abstractenglish | Marine fisheries not only affect species of commercial interest since many non-commercial species are regularly bycaught. Cetaceans are highly affected by bycatch due to accidental entanglements that occur during locomotion or while trying to feed from species already caught in the nets. This study aims to determine whether the traditional fishing port of Sua presents cetacean bycatch. To answer the question fishermen from area of study were accompanied during routinary fishing operations, and recording in each opportunity spatial data, environmental conditions, commercial species caught and morphological characteristics of entangled cetacean sif existed. 31 fishing trips were made, of which 39 % presented interactions with the number of entanglements showed no significant correlation with any of the variables recorded in the field. Since interactions between cetaceans and fishing nets (entanglements, holes in the nets or even the entire loss of them) represented important economic losses for the fishermen, they were annoyed by these incidents. These results are important to enforce conservation measures of cetaceans in the area.
